In September, The Dale Jr. Foundation was approached by Motor Racing Outreach (MRO) to participate in their Operation Christmas Child project for Samaritan’s Purse. This project entailed filling twenty-five boxes to send to less fortunate children in other countries. JRM was happy to help MRO reach its goal of sending a total of 25 boxes to Samaritan’s Purse.
Samaritan’s Purse is a humanitarian organization that works worldwide to meet the physical and spiritual needs of people suffering from war, poverty, disaster, disease and famine. Children in these countries look forward to the joys of Christmas just like any other child. Operation Christmas Child gives each of these children a present. The presents are individual shoe boxes for each child, filled with a variety of items such as: toiletries, school supplies, games, coloring books, small toys, etc.
Everyone at JR Motorsports (JRM) brought in box-stuffing items and monetary contributions to help fill the shoe boxes. The monetary donations were used to go shopping for missing items and to pay for the shipment of the boxes. A few employees volunteered to assist in the box assembly and we had a great time selecting items specific to a gift recipient’s age and gender. This was a great way to celebrate the “gift of giving” at JRM for Christmas 2009!
Operation Christmas Child boxes went to over 7.9 million children last year. If you are interested in sending a shoe box this Christmas, please visit http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/ We’d like to send a big thank you out to our wonderful JRM employees for their participation and to MRO for organizing this charitable project.
